Outdoor Living In Minster

Friday 4th of July 2025

With this year marking the 51st anniversary of World Environment Day – which is designed to encourage collective action to tackle climate change and boost awareness of the importance of our natural environment – we’ve been taking a look at some of the best outdoor activities our residents can enjoy near our developments.

This week, we’re turning our attention to our Hoo Farm community in Minster, Kent, where sustainable living blends perfectly with this development’s beautiful surroundings. Read on to find out about some of the best things to do there!

1. Minster Abbey & Village Green

Home to a community of Benedictine Nuns and situated in beautiful tranquil gardens, Minster Abbey is a place of peace and serenity that is perfect for older visitors and history buffs to stroll around and explore.

Located just a short drive away from Hoo Farm, the first Monastery at Minster Abbey was formed in 670 AD and this historic building is widely regarded as being the oldest inhabited house in England. It does include some modern comforts, however, including a charming tearoom and an exhibition area – perfect for those that prefer a slow-paced outing with serene views and rich heritage.

2. The Viking Coastal Trail

Those that prefer more physical activities, on the other hand, should consider the Viking Coastal Trail, a 32 mile/51.4km circular route that passes through and around coastal lanes, historic gems and dramatic scenery, as well as popular local destinations like Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate.

A brilliant way to stay active, enjoy the sea air and support sustainable transport, the Viking Coastal Trail is as eco-friendly as it is exhilarating!

3. Monkton Nature Reserve

For families with children, Monkton Nature Reserve is a gem – 16 acres of grassland, ponds, woodland and seasonal surprises, all sparking curiosity in young visitors.

The list of things to do is extensive and includes:

  • Hiking trails
  • Woodland trails
  • A sculpture hunt
  • A bat cave
  • The Willett Educational Garden
  • A brass rubbing trail
  • A fossil trail

and more, plus indoor options for when the weather isn’t great.

Whatever they’re into, this is one nature reserve that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your children’s faces!

At Roddy New Homes, we take pride in the locations that house our developments and this year, we’re inviting all our residents to step outside, breathe in the fresh air and cherish the green spaces that are all around us.
